Made from dirt, salt and vegetable shortening, the cookies (which
are regularly used by pregnant women and children as an antacid
and source of calcium) have become a regular meal for Haitians
desperate to satisfy hunger.
In Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere, 80 percent
of the population lives on less than $2 a day. The mud cookies sell for
around five cents each, compared to 60 cents for two cups of rice.
I read that they get all their essential nutrients from the dirt they put into those “cakes”.
eww… people actually eat that stuff?
Yes, they eat that gross stuff because they are STARVING. They don’t have a choice. That kid probably thinks it sucks too but he’s willing to eat it because the alternative is DEATH!
You say “gross” and “eww” like these people have a choice about what they eat. This isn’t some Haitian delicacy reserved for parties, this is literally all the food they can afford. Get outside your sheltered world and look around.

Congrats on bringing this subject to light. Once America gets off our high-horse and decides to leave the oil-producing companies alone, I think we should shift our power to third-world countries where children are starving, being raped, and killed on a daily basis.
We claim Sadam deserved to die (I agree) because of the crimes against humanity he committed, yet we turn our cheeks away from the hundreds of thousands of crimes against humanity in places like Rawanda and other places like that.

I love the people who come in here all righteous, as if they’re actually going to do something when they leave this page. Actions speak louder than words, if you’re so upset go help the Haitians instead of bashing the ignorant.
its not americas job to save the world, but any individual who technically has the power to help is really just as bad as the ones causing pain if they choose not to.

i don’t like to get political, and i don’t much like arguments, but if a country feels it’s ok to police the world under its own authority, it better be ****ing ready to help as well. as america is having problems finding out, after you break something that isn’t yours you have to fix it.
So, rather than plant seeds in the dirt and grow food, they eat the dirt. And no matter how much they’re starving, they keep right on making babies.
I have no pity for them.

CONDOMS pls. The wouldn’t be starving children without breeding folk. I know they all want to carry on their proud family heritage of starving to death and making productive people feel obligated to donate money, but seriously people. Why bring a child into such a lifestyle?
I agree. It’s great to help others, but it’s not America’s job to save the world. Nor is it our job to police the world. That sort of thing leads to incidents like… oh let’s just say… Vietnam?
